I can't get this to work. I created 2 shortcuts, one to "explorer.exe C:\dir1" and one to "explorer.exe C:\dir2". I pinned them both to the taskbar. They have different application IDs (Microsoft.AutoGenerated.*).
However when I click on the right-hand pinned shortcut, the window it opens has the same application ID as the left-hand shortcut. This means it replaces the left-hand shortcut in the taskbar, while the right-hand shortcut is still visible. So the right-hand shortcut effectively behaves like a "quick launch" icon, not a pinned application.
